Who am I?

My first blog…….. new adventures!

The Drifter

easter_island_04

Today is Easter here in Holland. Which basically means that many people and families go to the “Woonboulevards”; lots of stores with furniture, curtains, tv-sets, kitchens, bedrooms and lunchrooms. Nobody is going to buy anything, they just do some windowshopping “because everybody does it”! Hordes of people crowding and bumping into eachother to see the new “Björn” at Ikea’s or a new cover for the couch. Or maybe to score a new pan for the kitchen with new anti-stick coating or a spindle of DVD’s to burn the freshly downloaded movies. Nothing special at all!

But not me, I’m preparing for my “Drifter-night”. My wife had this great idea to invite her group of bellydance friends to continue the chit-chatting they do every time after bellydance-class. They’ll bring food, drinks, music and will spend the night doing the things they like so much……… talking, eating, drinking and dancing. And what about me? I’m kindly urged to leave the house and “do something for myself”! Whatever that may be. Not that I don’t have anything to do, on the contrary, I got plenty things that I like and could do. But I always like to do these things whenever I like and not whenever somebody else tells me to do it. But hey, that’s marriage too!

Because it’s Easter and all families have their things planned, I can’t visit all my friends….. they got their things to do. Many stores and café’s are closed, so that’s no option either. Ofcourse I could always update my blog, but that’s not an night-filling program. I could call some other friends to ask if they’ve got anything to do tonight, but they’ll probably ask me why I’m not with my wife during Easter and then I’ve got to tell them why, and that makes me feel like a hobo, the homeless drifter that goes from town to town; that’s not a comfortable feeling.

So I think I’ll just go running for an hour, take a shower, make up a story to tell my friends, that my wife is ill, or preparing for a very difficult exam and doesn’t want anyone to interrupt, and hopefully they buy it. That gives me free coffee, maybe an Easter snack, and good company for the night. Hopefully I’m allowed to sneak in again tonight when everybody is gone. Then I can snuggle into my wife again, kiss her in the neck and say: “What a great and relaxed Easter we had! Was it as good for you as it was for me?”

Why did they ever make Easter a holiday? Is that how people meant it to be in the early days? And who invited the Easter Bunny anyways? Ever thought about the correlation of Jezus and the Easter Bunny? Maybe this short movie will enlight you. Enjoy!
